How to Suceed in Corporate America

When I presented at a NYC based young men & women association recently, I was asked to share with them my thoughts on how to succeed in Corporate America. I thought it was an interesting question as a number of ideas ran through my head. After a short pause, I realised that I wanted to give them a few pointers so that they can actually practice what they heard as opposed to giving them a laundry list of things to do...

So, I shared the following with them. My experience tells me the following 3 should help...
  1. Drive Results - Must work hard and over deliver on the promise - don't be lazy
  2. Face with the Boss - Don't get into "us and them" mentality. Stand with your boss and not against him/her.
  3. Understand your boss's professional needs - Every boss you will have will be different, so understanding how the boss operates and his "push" button will help.

Follow these 3 suggestions and you can get up the "ladder" faster than your peers.
